The Challenge
IAM Local 2424 represents workers across a set of different employers at Aberdeen Proving Ground, including Abacus, Amentum, GSTEK, S&K Federal Services, Trax and Caelum. That is the complication. A member's steward, phone number and collective bargaining agreement all depend on which company they work for. Union local sites usually handle this badly. They post a wall of PDFs, a meeting minutes archive and a president's letter, and a member trying to check a contract clause on a break gives up and calls the hall. The site had to answer three questions fast: who is my steward, where is my contract and how do I reach the office.

What We Built
The homepage reduces to three actions: Find Your Employer, View Your Contract, Contact the Hall. The employers page is the backbone, a member picks their company and gets the steward contact, the phone number and the current collective bargaining agreement in one place. Resources pulls the national programs members actually use, the IAM National Pension Fund, the IAM Free College Program, Union Plus benefits and Union Plus scholarships, into a single page with direct links, so nobody has to know which national site hosts which benefit. The about page states who the local represents and the scale behind it, over 600,000 active and retired IAM members across North America, which matters when a member is weighing whether to raise a workplace issue. Phone and email are click to act on every page, and the mailing address is published for grievance paperwork.
