    SWANA Mid-Atlantic

    The Challenge

A professional chapter website has a job most business sites do not. It has to stay current. Board meetings move, training classes fill, certification prep courses open and close, the annual Road-E-O and the MRN conference come around every year, and scholarship deadlines pass. If any of that goes stale the site stops being trusted and members go back to email threads. SWANA Mid-Atlantic serves solid waste professionals across the region, from early career members to long tenured municipal staff, and the chapter needed one place that covered joining, attending, training, certifying, hiring and tracking legislation without a webmaster on retainer.

    Problems Identified

    • Constantly changing events with no single authoritative calendar
    • Membership, training and certification all handled through email
    • Job postings and legislative updates scattered across channels
    • Early career professionals with no visible on ramp
    • National SWANA resources needing to sit alongside chapter specific ones

    What We Built

The homepage leads with the next board meeting as a standing announcement band, with the date, venue and a link straight to the event, because that is the single most requested piece of information on any chapter site. Events are grouped by category, board meetings, training classes and certification courses, so a member filters to what they need instead of scrolling a mixed list. Membership joins, scholarships, training and the young professionals resource each got their own destination. Programs the chapter actually runs, the Road-E-O and the MRN conference, are treated as real program pages rather than calendar entries. A jobs board and a legislative updates feed give members a reason to come back between meetings. Chapter membership numbers are published openly, including the early career and full professional split, which is exactly the credibility signal a prospective member wants.
